The Chair

As the first physical outcome of this research, this furniture concept is meant to visualize the principles of digital material and translate them to a tangible scale.
The chair is assembled from aluminium tetrahedrons and spheres, that - when tightened by the inner cables - form a lightweight octet truss lattice; just the way atoms are oriented in crystallic structures. When the tension is released, the shape disappears and the material returns to its initial state; ready to be reconfigured.

The development of this piece was done in collaboration with After-Form.

It has been exhibited in het Klokgebouw at DDW17, and will be part of the Tech Expo at SingularityU NL Summit this November.
